Dr Rainhard van Zyl is an orthopeadic surgeon based in Cape Town who specialises in the latest surgical techniques for hip and knee replacement. These groundbreaking treatment options include computer and robotic assisted knee replacement as well as minimally invasive hip replacement.

In addition to more than 10 years’ practical experience, Dr van Zyl undertook fellowship training in Arthroplasty and Trauma Surgery with leading Australian orthopaedic specialists. This training has provided him with an extensive knowledge base as well as the necessary specialist skills to successfully address a variety of conditions using the latest technology.

Rainhard has won multiple academic awards covering a range of orthopaedic topics. He strives to continually develop and refine his knowledge regarding hip and knee disorders.

His patient-centric practice approach ensures that every individual patient is supported in achieving his/her optimal health outcomes.

The key to Dr van Zyl’s practice is having a patient centered focus, and tailoring treatments to suit the individual.  He has a wide variety of open and arthroscopic surgical skills and is able to individualise treatment to match every patient’s unique problems.  He has experience in multiple different types of joint replacement, from 3D printing, robotic surgery, 3D computer navigation, to using both anterior and posterior approaches to the hip.  Feel free to discuss any of these options with him at the time of your consultation.
